CLIFTON — Two longtime friends and business partners who once considered ending dreams of entrepreneurship have since extinguished any doubt as their current City-based venture has become a rousing success.
Michael Tolmach, 27, had all but resigned himself to the fact that he’d have to continue working as a financial advisor, a position in which he said he had grown “stagnant.”
Then, in late 2010, an opportunity emerged which the two business colleagues pounced on.
Grishayev, 26, owned and operated a small clothing shop on Main Avenue called Clifton Trends when he learned of a unique business opening.
“We were just hungry, you could say,” Tolmach recalled.
The idea was electronic cigarettes, an industry which the business duo believed they could break into and quickly control a substantial market share.
Eonsmoke was incorporated in 2011 and, two months later, they received their first products in the form of chocolate menthol e-cigarettes in which smokers exhale water vapor. Shortly thereafter, the small team received economy kits which included battery-powered e-cigarettes with about 300 puffs per cartridge.
By that summer, after enhancing its branding and learning to build an efficient website, the company’s products were carried in about 700 stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
